The 7th International Conference of Chinese/American Poetry and Poetics Held in CCNU
On December 8th and 9th, 2018, the 7th International Conference of Chinese/American Poetry and Poetics, hosted by the School of Foreign Languages of CCNU, co-hosted by Jianghan University, was held at CCNU. More than 200 scholars from China, the United States, South Korea, Australia, Morocco, Canada, Russia and other countries and regions attended the conference.
This conference was co-sponsored by CCNU, CCNU Press and other authorities. Four plenary sessions, three thematic discussions and twelve panel sessions were set up at the conference. In addition, Poetry Reading was specially held to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the founding of the Chinese/American Association for Poetry and Poetics(CAAP).
During the conference, distinguished scholars and professors from different countries delivered speeches. It was worth mentioning that one of them, Professor Tyehimba Jess of the City University of New York, won the Pulitzer Prize for Poetry in 2017. Taking his award-winning poetry collection Olio as an example, he explored the relevance between the form and content of poetry and how it affected the historical reproduction in poetry. Moreover, Professor Luo Lianggong from CCNU argued the materialization of language in Emily Dickinson’s poetry.
This conference, initiated by CCNU and University of Pennsylvania and other domestic and foreign academic institutions and organized by CAAP, was another international academic event. Poetry is the window of soul, the presentation of the spirit of the time. That experts and scholars exchanged their ideas of poetry research here was safeguarding the nobility and dignity of human beings through the exchange of souls. On the tenth anniversary of the founding of CAAP which was initiated and sponsored by CCNU, this conference was of great significance.
